LED lights are the latest inclusion in light industry. The light which we use nowadays was invented by Thomas Alva Edison in 1879. Day-by-day the light making process is getting improved as we want a better lighting system with low costing. As a consequence, Light Emitting Diode (LED) is the latest development of this section. According to recent research LED bulbs use 85% less energy than incandescent lighting. That is why this saves a lot of money and energy for you.

The more the days are passing the more new models of LED lights are coming in the market with new features and variants. You need to be very precise and choosy at the time of selecting an LED light bulb for your home and office.

What is an LED light?

A light-emitting diode which is known as LED in short has a two-lead semiconductor light source. It has a p-n junction diode that emits light when activated. When the perfect voltage is applied to the leads, internal electrons can recombine with the electron holes, releasing energy in the form of photons. This effect is called electroluminescence. The color of the light is determined by the energy bandgap of the semiconductor.

A Light Emitting Diode (LED) is one of the extensively used inventions these days. These magical light bulbs gained a wide range of applications and popularity due to its remarkable properties like it’s small in size and consuming very little power.

History of LED lights

An American scientist at General Electric named Nick Holonyak invented LED lights. While he was trying to create a laser in the early 1960s, he accidentally invented the red LED light. Within a few years, yellow and green LEDs are added to the journey of LED lights. In 1990 the blue LED was created by a group of Japanese scientists and they were glorified by the Nobel Prize in 2014.

How does LED light work?

The substance used in LEDs is primarily aluminum-gallium-arsenide (AlGaAs). In its original state, the atoms of this substance are closely bonded. Conduction of electricity becomes impossible without free electrons.

By doping, which means the addition of impurities, extra atoms are introduced, effectively disturbs the balance of the substance.

These impurities in additional atomic forms are able either to provide free electrons (N-type) into the system or draw out some of the existing electrons from the atoms (P-Type) producing “holes” in the atomic orbits. In both ways the substance is rendered more conductive. Thus by the influence of an electric current in N-type of substance, the electrons can travel from anode (positive) to the cathode (negative) and vice versa in the P-type of substance. Current will never travel in opposite directions in the respective cases due to the nature of the semiconductor property.

From the above statement, it’s clear that the intensity of light will depend on the energy level of the emitted photons which in turn will depend on the energy released by the electrons jumping in between the atomic orbits of the semiconductor material.

For your knowledge, we are giving you all the possible pros and cons of the LED light. That is why you can learn about all the ins and outs of the LED light. Please make sure you are choosing LED lights for lighting your home and office rather than traditional fluorescent and CFL lights.

Here is the list of advantages and disadvantages of LED lights:

Advantages of LED light:

There are lots of advantages of LED lights due to these people are using these lights more than the others. There are more advantages to adding every year with this type of light. Here is the list of some major advantages for you.

LED can run with a very low voltage

LED lights are well known for their low voltage operation. That is why the popularity of LED lights is getting everywhere both in rural and urban areas. This is one of the best features among the lights available in the market. This feature has made LED lights a bigger advantage in our daily uses.

It has a very long life span of almost 20 years

LED lights have the most service lifetime. This is the most important advantage of LED lights. The more the time it gives us the service the more cost-efficient it is. No other light types have as much longevity as this. Due to this people now love to use LED lights for home and office.

Highly energy savings

No other lights are as energy-efficient as LED lights. In modern days, LED lights are offering up to 85% energy savings capacity. This makes it more usable and it makes people’s first choice. This energy savings feature also helps you to save your electricity bill.

This device doesn’t have any heating or warm-up issues

LED lights do not need any warm-up time or heating time to light itself up. Traditional fluorescent lights need this. Due to this instant on/off process people like LED lights more than the CFL, Fluorescent lights.

Very lightweight

As most of the LED lights are built by LED strips or semiconductors which are very low in weight. Due to this LED lights are very lightweight. At the same time the body of LED lights and cover shields are made from high-quality lightweight materials. That is why most of the LED lights are lightweight.

Easy to replace

Almost all the LED lights are easy to install and replace. Almost all the models are screw-based connectors or pin-based connectors. Due to this, there is no time needed for arranging or changing the LED lights.

Led & chemical-free

No chemical or substantial led materials are used during the production of LED lights. Due to this, there is no chance of getting a chemical hazard. We have also seen that most other types of lights have more or less chemical hazard problems. Due to this, you need to choose LED light for your use.

Environment friendly

All the LED lights we have in the market are environment friendly and cause no harm in nature. Due to this government and other regulatory bodies are recommending LED lights for regular use. As LED lights are producing low energy and heat that is why it supports us to save from global warming.

Cost-efficient

Though the pricing of the LED lights is higher than all other traditional lights, it has several advantages over that. LED lights save energy up to 85% based on the models of the lights. It saves hundreds and thousands of dollars of your electricity bill all year long. That is why you should buy LED lights for your use.

Multiple light color variant available in the market

LED lights have multiple light color variants due to its wide color band diode. That is why by using the dimmer you can change the intensity of the light and color at the same time. Try to have a LED light with dimmer.

Disadvantages of LED light:

Though LED lights are great for usage it has several disadvantages too. Due to this, you need a very clear idea about the lights. Here are some common disadvantages we are talking about: LED lights.

A slight change in voltage may cause the hamper of light

LED lights are very vulnerable due to a slight change in voltage. Most of the LED lights get damaged due to these voltage issues. So LED lights are much more vulnerable than the other lights.

Repairing is quite tricky

LED lights are not repairable as like the other light bulbs. It is also costly. Due to that once the lights are gone you need to switch for a new bulb. That is why people need to pay more money initially for LED light purchases.

Quite costly

LED light’s prices are a bit higher than the other types of lights. Not all people have that initial budget for buying a bulk amount of light for decorating their houses. Though for a long time it saves money, the initial investment is not that affordable. Due to this people are sometimes discouraged to buy LED lights.

Comparably difficult to find than regular light

LED lights are not that simple as the other light bulbs. You only find LED lights in the big electronics shops, super shops, and licensed shops by the manufacturers. You need to look for these lights so that you find the original ones.

In conclusion, the pros of using LED lights outweigh the cons. As a result, people feel more comfortable using LED rather than normal light in recent years. It is recommended to use LED lights rather than other traditional lights.

The above-mentioned pros and cons are the basis we have to know so far. For in detail discussion we will publish another blog in our version 2! Till then keep watching other blogs and subscribe to our newsletter to get the latest updates on the lighting industry.
